Always pick up insulin the moment you can! I'm type 1 as well. I hoard it. Liquid gold! There was a time when I was on my last vial and was scared I'd wouldn't make it to my refill day. I do the same with pump supplies and cgms!

my daughter was born deaf. profound bilateral. She is now an adult, and collects disability. Every 3 years, they make her go to an audiologist and get retested, to prove she is still deaf.

Ooh… i stockpile my migraine medicine. But i just keep adding to my stockpile. I pick it up every single month because my insurance likes to play games with migraine meds. Like l’m supposed to take it every 2 days so i need 15 a mo. Well now insurance will only cover 8 every 45 days. But its billed every 30 says so impossible for me to get my 15 at any time.

No diabetes, but my son has a life-threatening peanut/tree nut allergy. He’s 26 now, but when he was younger, insurance wouldn’t cover his life-saving epi-pen. All to say…I get it, and my heart goes out to you!!!

Type-1 mom here! Insurance companies are the worst!! Wait until they turn 12 or 13 and you are still her care taker but getting any info is a HIPAA violation! But yes, stockpile as much as you can, set calendar reminders for all of your refills! Ketone strips, glucagon, backup insulin, backup needles, back up glucose test straps and finger prickers, even if you arent using them often! Better to have it on hand than have to go through excess prior authorization! You can donate unused, unexpired items to diabetes camps or organizations!

It’s so bad! Most insurance people have no clue what they’re even talking about!!! I stockpile and I’m just really careful if I used expired/close to the date insulin. I’ve never had any issue with it, just make sure to keep it in the fridge. 😊

not insulin, but my daughter's epilepsy medicine. insurance said they won't cover it because it's not an essential medication. like what do you mean its not essential! it controls her seizures it's absolutely essential to her quality of life. asked for a review and dispute of the denial. doctor called. they won't budge so we pay full price each month.

Never try to use all the supplies… fill them as soon as you can!!! You need a stockpile just in case. Last year (I think) they ran out of Fiasp (ever single pharmacy in a 2 hour radius) and they were out for several months. I didn’t have much surplus and I had to go on a different kind for a few months… plus with the CGM you always want extra in case they don’t last their entire lifespan. If it’s dexcom and it fails or falls of early you can get a support ticket and they will send you a replacement

I have to fight every month for mine. also I only get 15 pods a month for my omni pod so if I knock one off I have to get approved for a replacement

I wonder if there are any non-profits that will take the surplus insulin for low income diabetics that can’t afford their insulin? Obviously it would need to be run by medical professionals…. But I can’t imagine how much life saving medicine gets tossed for this very reason.

No sense to be made with insurance!!! Daughter needs shots in her eye(s) every month to be able to see and not go blind!!! Insurance said it’s NOT a pre-existing condition so they don’t cover. Two years of shots that cost $700 to $1500 a month!!!
