@robertleebarber: Leadership is choosing who gets disappointed. One of the hardest parts of leadership is realizing that every meaningful decision creates some disappointment. Not because leaders are unfair. Because resources are limited. Time is limited. Attention is limited. And not every priority can be the top priority at the same time. A promotion goes one direction. Funding goes somewhere else. A project gets approved while another gets delayed. That's leadership. A lot of leaders become stuck trying to find the decision that disappoints nobody. It doesn't exist. The real responsibility is making the best decision possible for the organization, the team, and the mission with the information available at the time. Because leadership is not consensus management. It's decision-making. And sometimes the people who disagree with the decision aren't wrong. They simply wanted a different outcome. If you're leading long enough, there will be moments when someone is frustrated with you. The question isn't whether disappointment exists. The question is whether the decision moved the organization forward anyway. #leadership #leadershipskills
Thanks for saying this. Too many leaders choose short term comfort over long term success.

One of the pillars of my retrospect/ instrospect at the end of a hard day is... 1) what was my difficulty? 2) did i obtain all subjective/ objective data possible to make an informed decision? 3) Did i act with the slightest bit of impartiality? if so, where do i think this happened and did anybody incorrectly lose or gain from this decision? but most importantly 4) how did i support the party that lost in the decision? did I walk with them and show them the road to success? or did I just leave them to it and say aaah sorry, maybe next time? ... am I truly satisfied with what happened? what could I have done better? ... its pure, methodical scientific people's skillset. purely. Sure everybody is not going to win. But not everyone needs to feel like a loser. 🙏💭👌❤️💯🤩

if everyone in your charge is happy, you're probably doing something wrong as a leader.
