Why do we still have long haul trucking. We need to nationalize the railway infrastructure and move all long haul transport to trains. Nationalize the railway infrastructure & open them up to any qualified operators. Let UPS, FedEx, Amazon, Walmart, etc run their own trains.

Why can't this be solved with fuel export tarifs in North America? You've said in the past that the issue is not ours but it is the globally interconnected price of fuel that tethers us to problems elsewhere. It would seem clear that an export tarif would balance the equation

Well the trucking companies that are going to self driving automation should be able to absorb the higher fuel cost without passing it on. Why? Because they are eliminating human salaries, benefits and workers comp costs. But of course they’ll never do that; they’ll be sure to make it more expensive for them even as they make more profit.
