Just make your iPhone screen black and white or red so the blue light doesn’t affect her

My kid is obsessed with himself. He can barely finish taking a picture before he says “let me see it”

We do this too! We do it for haircuts, nail trims, once to check his temp! We switch between videos of himself or photo “slideshows” of him (and family) but we switch everything to black and white and use the accessibility feature on the iPhone to reduce the backlight as well.

I’m a pediatric occupational therapist! I think it’s neutral, especially if it’s not all day every day. Probably good for her language and social development if you’re taking in the video, she’s doing something new in the video, and if you’re talking to her about the videos as she’s watching

My son is five and has also seen lots of videos of himself and we also have an aura (digital frame) filled with pics of his whole childhood and he tells us he doesn’t remember loads of things we show him. He seems to have a firm grasp on what he can remember and can’t despite all the videos/pictures of his early years. I think overall it’s supposed to be good for children to see photos of themselves in their family. It helps cement their place/role in the world and ultimately feel secure.

My son is obsessed with looking at pictures and videos of himself when he was a baby. He’s two and always points at my phone saying “BABY!!!” and sometimes I for sure give in and we scroll through the first year of his life 🥹🥹

I used to watch videos of myself in the 90’s. I know what I remember from my own perspective and what is only preserved bc of video and what is something in middy.

Hi, it's me your best friend who has a degree in literally nothing- she's exceptional and I don't think she has had any negative impacts on her mental capacity from watching "videos" so carry on 😂

hi Emi, this is Kathryn Black, your mom's friend. I can't answer your primary question, but as far as memories for personal experiences go, ppl cannot remember real life experiences long term until they are are around 3 yrs old because the hippocampus is not fully developed yet (This is the same brain area that shrinks with age and intereferes with encoding new long term memories in dementia.) It might be good for her to see herself say, at her b-day celebrations, because theoretically, she probably doesn't remember the event itself - at least not without some cues to jog the memory. I think it's probably a good thing, as are your instincts in wanting to show her vids of herself because I think you already "get" that she may not remember these events. Hope this helps!

we discussed this ad nauseum about my oldest - we would let him scroll all of my insta stories of himself (+whatever else i posted) over and again but nothing else. i don’t have an answer but it felt better than youtube 🤷🏼‍♀️
