Jaw asymmetry is not always “the bone.” Very often, it starts with the muscles first. Research connects jaw asymmetry with things like: * postural compensation * TMJ mechanics * unilateral chewing patterns * tension through the neck and tongue * even breathing and swallowing patterns But no matter the cause, the muscles around the jaw usually become part of the pattern. The medial pterygoid, the muscles under the jaw, the temporalis, and surrounding tissues start adapting asymmetrically. Circulation changes. Capillary flow becomes less optimal. The tissue becomes denser and tighter on one side. That’s why relaxing those muscles matters. This technique focuses especially on the medial pterygoid, one of the deepest and most overlooked muscles involved in jaw asymmetry. Do this a little longer on the tighter side. Slowly. Consistently. And yes, posture matters too. The jaw never works alone. If you want to fully address your asymmetry with my techniques and understand how all these structures connect, make sure you get into next month’s class.
