You are 1000% correct. I have to fly home to see my mom to get my hair braided (in a design at that!) with no heat and no gel. It’s a lost art

I just finished my own. Xsmall but length no braid gel no blow dry. 🤷🏽♀️sprayed braid spray and greased scalp at the end

My braider from highschool is still doing my micro braids she charges 150 and I bringing my own human hair . The last time it took us 12 hours and she didn’t want to take my 90 dollar tip . I had to stuff it with a note in her couch . I then go back and get the front redone 6 weeks later . I’m never ever going to get braids that I can’t keep up for a good month . I was paid 700 in ATL hair included they were slipping out a week later . The included hair was super shiny and weird looking.

I’m a stylist but I was not a braider. I taught my self to do braids 2 years ago because of what was happening to my clients hair when they go get them. I said you know what let me learn so I can braid my clients hair because I get it. They want them in the summer. As much as I hate braiding I did what I had to do to keep my clients hair healthy. They were so happy that I learned.

When people started using gels I was like wait what you need that for lol. I still braid my clients up without gels unless they specifically request it.

Yes! It’s possible, I agree. I never blow dry my hair or use gel to braid my hair, I use hair cream. But my clients want gel- I try to use little as possible.

Definitely two different types of clientele, I get so many people that don’t care about their hair and just the outcome and I personally have gotten to the point that I only do clients that want healthy hair with their beautiful style
