Jack Nicholson has always been about that life 😂😭 *As Good As It Gets* (1998) became one of those movies that perfectly captured the sharp, sometimes unapologetically edgy humor of its era, with Jack Nicholson’s Melvin Udall delivering one of the most memorable lines when a fan asks how he writes women so well: “I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability.” It’s classic Nicholson—dry, sarcastic and deliberately playing into a stereotype so exaggerated that audiences of the 90s and early 2000s generally treated jokes like this as harmless tongue-in-cheek comedy. Today, the same kind of humor can land very differently with younger generations, reflecting how dramatically cultural attitudes toward stereotypes and offensive comedy have changed. The film itself remains beloved for its performances, quirky characters and surprisingly heartfelt balance between cynicism and warmth, earning Nicholson and Helen Hunt Academy Awards.
