There’s no way that floor plan was made by an architect. This was the result of a builder drawing a floor plan. It’s truly awful.

did you see what won the 2025 home of the year UK it was a deconstructed house with each of the functions in a separate building, in a country where it rains about 50% of the year, not one judge called out the madness of it all just applauded the bravery of it. I think it sends the wrong message to separate design and practicality. Good design is practical.

I lived in an older home and now I live in a newer build, open concept. At first it seemed amazing but slowly I realized that the openness meant that what would have been hallways is now part of the room. This makes the flow difficult unless you do a very basic layout. Frustrating.

im so confused by street facing bedrooms and then a mudroom no directly attached to the back patio and the garage. also I would prefer to have a mud room connected to a room that has a shower and near the laundry room so all the dirty clothes be put in the laundry without getting all over my house

My professors in interior design school hated the fact I loved designing small sensible homes. I was the only one in my class who liked ADA universal design class. I am also one of two people in my class that work in the field for a period of time.

I don't want guests walking by bedrooms as they enter the house. That makes my skin crawl. And I like symmetry but it needs to flow instead of feeling stiff and forced.

The exterior image looks like it was made by AI. Not actually saying it was, but just that if you told AI to "make me a symmetrical mansion with a country feel" and the best part is that the peak for the 3 car garage sticks up high and ruins the right side symmetry, just like AI would do.

I LOVE this. As someone who (for some unknown reason) loves looking at house plans, these are the things I look at and wonder why they were drawn this way. To see a professional, someone who understands design and functionality, points these flaws out and explain why is captivating to me.
