This morning was not supposed to be Day 1. But my oncologist called and said, "If you can get here now, you can start chemo today." I live 1.5 hours away. No warning. No time to mentally prepare. Just... go. My husband rushed home from the gym. I threw together my chemo bag in record time. And we hit the road, because when it's time to fight, you show up. Once we checked in, everything got real fast. They brought us back to our little chemo chair, my mom and husband on each side of me. My nurse (who was truly incredible) accessed my port, drew labs, gave me my pre-meds, and walked me through everything so calmly. (All staff in this video fully consented to being recorded.) Then chemo began: • The "A" in AC — Adriamycin The "C" in AC — Cyclophosphamide (aka the red devil + its partner in crime) Between meds and flushes, a music therapist walked up and sang "Here Comes the Sun," which my husband has officially made our chemo theme song. I will never forget that moment. After the last drug finished, they flushed they flushed my port with saline and heparin, and then it was time for my Neulasta On-Pro. The needle popping in definitely startled me...even though I knew it was coming e It felt like a tiny rubber band snap. In 27 hours it'll give me the dose I need to boost my white cells when l'm home. Just like that... Round 1 of AC is done. The first step of many. The start of the climb. The beginning of the healing.
