Omg my mom did this! My mom was an amazing cook and baker, a seamstress, an immaculate housekeeper and gardener. I became an adult not knowing how to cook or do my own laundry, in spite of living at home til 21!!! And SHE points out to people that her kids never cooked. Like?????

This type of neglect was SO prevalent in my family. My mother would make fun of me for not knowing things SHE was supposed to teach me, and insisted that I couldn’t do basic things by myself. It took me so long to connect the dots, so hearing people acknowledge this type of abuse and the controlling nature behind it has been so reassuring for me. Would love to hear you speak on this topic more ❤️

I tell my son I'm raising an independent man not a man child. He has to learn all domestic duties so he can take care of himself.
