I’ve always wanted to grow Saffron (Crocus Sativus) but doing it was actually way more sayisfying than I even expected. If you grow flowers cos they look nice, or cos they smell good, then why not grow flowers that look stunning, smell amazing AND produce an incredible Spice. Planted in September they were ready to harvest in 8-9 week. If you have space you can plant the bulbs and expect them to multiply each year creating larger and larger swathes of stunning scented blooms and of course more saffron. I got my bulbs from @Farmer Gracy they work out at about 25p each depending on how many you buy. Sold out now, but set a reminder for Next August if you want to grow these next year. WARNING: Saffron crocus (Crocus Sativus) has a poisonous lookalike called ‘Colchicum Autumnale’. They are both small purple flowers that bloom in autumn - both unhelpfully are often referred to as ‘autumn crocus’. Whilst Crocus Sativus produces saffron, Colchicum Autumnale is very poisonous. You will not randomly find Saffron crocuses growing in the park or the woods, don’t ever ‘forage’ for it. Only pick and use Saffron strands from Crocus Sativus bulbs you have bought and grown from a reliable source. #saffron
