We were sitting at a restaurant the other day doing math problems with our 5 year old and an older couple came over to tell us they were retired teachers and they assumed our daughter had an iPad because of how well behaved she was and answering the math problems. We said nope, she just goes with us everywhere and she loves math!

I’m always surprised when parents are shocked their kids cannot handle daily life when they’ve never required them to practice daily life. Where do we think the kids learn these things? My son is required to entertain himself while I make dinner, he’s required to act like a human while we grocery shop, he’s required to help clean up his messes. Yes, sometimes it’s annoying as hell, but a little work up front makes everything easier in the long run.

As a parent. My thing isn't taking my kids out, its the judgment of others for my kids being kids. While i agree with you, we also dont hold space for kids anymore. we do not allow kids to be kids.

Kids also don’t value toys like they used to! Everything is so easily replaceable and they know if they break it, their parents can get a new one almost immediately.

I mean, if I had to work full time, and so did my husband (maybe even more than one job) I also wouldn't want to take kids in a grocery store and deal with it. I'm not saying you're wrong, and it's not necessarily lazy parenting, most parents are just too burnt out in this economy.
