Everyone saying just buy an AC unit doesn’t realize the houses here are OLD. Their electrical is old and can’t handle the influx. Oh and THIS ISN’T NORMAL FOR US. The equivalent would be snow in Phoenix or Miami and no heaters because you’ve never needed it before.

Fuming at the Americans in the comments not understanding 😭 we have higher humidity here - especially in the UK. Our salaries are much lower than the US (not minimum I know), our houses are made of brick and thick insulation to keep heat in, and in many places we have listed buildings meaning you can’t install AC. Our electric bills are very high - most people can’t afford to pay for it. We would only use the AC for 3 weeks a year so spending hundreds isn’t affordable. Portable AC units overheat too. Our infrastructure is also not built to withstand extreme weather in any direction and the government won’t fund it.

Why do people not understand that yes it is hotter in other places. Yes the heat lasts longer in other places. But here these temperatures are not consistent. They come very fast and go just as quickly. Our cities are not made to help with heat, houses are often build to trap heat in the cold winters. So you can keep your "Oh it's 90/100°F here for 6 months a year." comments because it is not the same.

YES we do realize we need ACs now. They weren't necessary in the past because summer wasn't this hot. That's why Europe lacks ACs.

Once back in stock, my family here in the UK is getting ac installed in our bedrooms. We’ve been mixed about it for a while but this confirmed our need for it (as I’m disabled and struggle more with it).

Keep in mind it’s 36-40*C and up to 83% humidity with no AC. It’s super expensive to have AC in the UK and lots of other European countries

As an American who was in London a few weeks ago during the other heat wave, it really is that bad. And I spent almost all 30 years of my life living in FL. These comments are not passing the vibe check.
