in therapy when I was sharing my heart and soul of trauma that gave me cptsd and continuous flashbacks, as I’m paying for, he would say “we don’t need to get upset now”. I had some tears and that was it. It bothered him that I was sad about the abuse by a man that made my eyes react. But when I switched to a woman therapist, she was encouraging me to keep talking and Nevermind having tears. But the “we don’t need to get upset now” made me feel so much shame in my vulnerability, his words play in my mind when I remember horrible abuses and I wish he never said that. Some just don’t understand I guess.
