I keep watching people accidentally discover metamodernism on tiktok... Maybe there's hope yet.

cringe culture is from 2016. millennial optimism never existed, the 2010s were depressing. The Great Recession was horrible for everyone and people completely forget about it. If anything the 2020s is defined by Y2K nostalgia not "cringe culture". no one cares about leafy anymore.

The idea that hipsters, people whose guiding star was doing things ironically, were at all sincere is pretty good man

cringe culture is a normal part of being a teenager to a greater or lesser extent, the real cringe is holding onto it well into adulthood. Frankly using social media at all as an adult is kind of cringe.

My take is that it’s always “cool” to not care and it ebbs and flows between forced nonchalant and wild expression. The wild expression being those who REALLY don’t care what people think. The too cool for school is in right now and those who shine are the ones who express their true selves without shame. Then that’s going to catch on again and it becomes a cycle across generations

Everybody does that in memes. Its a canvas, that's why u r not allowed to be mad about it. Because u counter meme with meme not argument or rage

I don’t think you can take the authenticity out of millenials, that’s who we are and we don’t care if Gen Z makes fun of us. This is the game - we find authenticity, it gets corrupted, we find it again. We don’t need to go back. We need to move forward and be true to ourselves. It’s not a formula, we will find it, we already are. Time to stop looking to social media to see what’s cool, just be your own cool.
