THIS!! ESPECIALLY when people say they hated Thousand Autumns and Peerless because the relationships took a backseat to the plot- I LOVED those series! Don’t get me wrong, MXTX and Meatbun are amazing authors and I love their series, but the change of pace was nice

My only complaint about politics in danmei is that Ballad of Sword and Wine occasionally makes me feel really stupid because the politics and war strategies are very complicated 😭/lh

The book being published in and of itself is literally a political statement!! 😭 Also… if most danmei didn’t have political plotlines involving the emperor and clans it would be bare bones… it’s not like they had modern society or lives that weren’t heavily influenced by the emperors reign back however many centuries ago..
