Dumbledore :
These two are extremely good at what’s called a “second sight” act. The question isn’t, “How does Marina know what James is holding?”, the real question is, “How is James secretly telling Marina what he’s holding?” They’re doing what mentalist acts have done for 100+ years and it’s called coded language. James & Marina have obviously spent years developing an elaborate verbal code. For example, “What am I holding?” might mean one category, “Can you tell everyone what I’m holding? ”might mean another, “Describe this object for us” might mean another, etc. The exact wording, rhythm, sentence, structure, emphasis, pauses, etc that James uses all carry information to Marina but to the audience, every question sounds identical. To Marina, each variation by James communicates the object category, colour, size, material, first letter of the object, etc. And these two have developed multiple layers of code. Literally hundreds & thousands of different objects, colours, numbers, and details can be communicated entirely through coded phrasing that sounds completely natural to the audience. It’s very difficult to do it well and it takes years of practice, and these two have done it extremely well. They have a great act!
