You went through the interview process, received a rejection, and then saw the exact same position reposted. What happened? Here’s a little insight into what happens behind the scenes. Why was the position reposted? The hiring manager wants to meet more candidates. Here are some possible reasons: 1. The first group didn’t have the experience or skill set they were looking for. 2. The hiring manager didn’t find the right cultural fit. 3. The expectations for the position evolved during the interview process. 4. The hiring manager is being overly selective and looking for someone who checks every box ( Doesn’t exist ) 5. AI-inflated applications: Candidates appear qualified on paper, but their actual experience doesn’t align with what’s presented on their resume. ( Happens a lot ) Could they revisit someone from the first group? Yes. But I wouldn’t count on it. I understand why candidates get frustrated. You’ve invested your time interviewing, only to see the position posted again. Some candidates question whether the company was genuinely hiring or just gathering information. That concern isn’t something we should automatically dismiss. But here’s a strategy you can use in your next interview. Ask the hiring manager: ( Save this) “Beyond what’s outlined in the job description, what are the most important qualities or experiences you’re looking for in the person you hire?” This question gives you an opportunity to uncover expectations the hiring manager may not have clearly identified during the first round of interviews. Pay attention to their answer. They’re telling you exactly what they need. This is your opportunity to demonstrate how your experience aligns with those needs. Give them a specific example of how you’ve applied that experience and the results you’ve achieved. You’re now positioning yourself as a solution to what the hiring manager actually needs. Don’t leave the interview hoping the hiring manager connected the dots between your experience and their needs. Make that connection for them. #interview #job #careeradvice #jobsearch #jobsearch
