@drsamanthaellis: Wear whichever sunscreen you prefer! The most important thing is that you are applying enough product and using it consistently. Mineral vs. chemical is not the issue. #melasma #chemicalsunscreen #mineralsunscreen #skincaremistakes #skincaretip
I could have sworn the push for mineral sunscreen was to save the corals in the ocean! lol I use supergoop and it’s my favorite!

Why does it seem like every dermatologist completely misunderstands this and is regularly telling patients melasma is only prevented with mineral? How did we get to this level of misinformation? I have heard a mineral sunscreen study cited a few times.

Doctor sometimes i don’t have the time to wait 15 minutes for my chemical sunscreen to start working, what happens if i apply it and go out immediately ? Is it zero protection? ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

Is wearing both (chemical then mineral) okay? I put on chemical as skincare and then use tinted mineral as makeup.

Isn’t it true though that tinted sunscreens with compounds such as iron oxides and pigmentary titanium dioxide are superior because they block visible light?

Adrienne Mason :
So right. Chemical and mineral are now more alike than we once thought. I still like to lean towards tinted mineral though because they contain iron and zinc oxides which help against visible light as well which also hinders Melasma. It also protects better against UVA not just UVB. I stopped telling my clients mineral versus chemical and more towards 30-50 SPF tinted that contains iron and zinc oxides. 🤷🏻♀️as well as the other things, stay out of direct sun, use cold facial rollers post workouts, post blow drying hair. Etc. is this still good to continue saying in your opinion? (Licensed Esthetician and Laser Technician at a med spa)

I work in medical aesthetics and sometimes people get weird telling me there using a drugstore sunscreen or one from sephora and not “medical grade” STOP!!!! If you’re wearing spf that’s music to my ears. The best one if the one you will wear everyday

Genuine question, when I wear mineral my cheeks get way less red than when I wear chemical. Why is that? I prefer textures of chemical but they sting my eyes and I get very red. Mineral is heavier but less redness

Can you reapply chemical over mineral spf and vice versa? Or do you have to reapply with the type of spf you first used?
