If the “friend” was embarrassed that’s on her! Personally, I think OP was genius!

If getting charged for to go boxes is normal, I would think bringing reusable containers would be normal. Like places in the US that charge for grocery bags, you see lots of people with reusable bags. The friend has a weird hang up.

To go boxes are so wasteful. OP did nothing weird or wrong. Maybe uncommon but seen it plenty of times

my college dining hall had/has a program where you buy a reusable plastic clamshell togo box for like $5 i think it was and you get your food in the container. bring it back and exchange for a sanitized new one and repeat. was 1000% better than the usual flimsy Styrofoam or paper ones and cuts back on waste.

Why not bring Tupperware? It’s better for the environment

NTA! we need to normalize this! single use containers are such a ln unnecessary waste of plastics as well as paper & metal foil! before COVID, I always carried Tupperware for left overs and my own reusable utensils for restaurants that only used disposable. its a small but easy change we can all make to treat our ecosystem with more respect. ✌🏽❤️🌏

OP planned ahead and has lunch for tomorrow. Especially if they charge you for packaging leftovers, OP was smart. I’m not wasting food for someone’s ego.

when I was in school my mom gave me Tupperware because sometimes I wouldn't be able to finish my school lunches and I had teachers tell me I wasn't allowed to take that food home and had to throw it away, this story just made me think of that idk

I run a fastfood place in Belgium (frituur). I think it's pretty clever. If i notice guests have a lot of meat left i often suggest packing it up for them, some things are still delicious cold or reheated. It would be pretty awesome if someone brought their own reusable packaging. When my parents ran the place(+-30 years ago) people would often bring a cooking pot to fill up with fries, there's only a few people left who do that.
