They're also forgetting that you're not just paying for a machine. You're paying for a steam item which will have less hassle (all the other consoles have online subscriptions and etc) You get a machine that you control entirely.

people forget that valve is one of if not the most costumer friendly company and that thanks to AI the price of ram and a lot of components sky rocketed and it was confirmed that the original price was spouse to be 750 but sadly it's not something they can do beacuse of the current market I love and support valve they are amazing

the people complaining about the price is crazy to me, they only compare it to consoles and compare it to consoles when it isnt a console, and the console business model just cant be applied here so of course its not as cheap

I don't think you understand. Outside of Valve enthusiasts, no gamer wants a steam machine. It is out performed by every current gen console l, costs way more than current gen consoles, and can't natively play any game with kernel level anti cheat which makes it useless for most of the most popular games. The GabeCube is trash bro..

I work at a tech and refurbish company…costs are so bad, even for used gear. Steam also wanted to sell it for cheaper..that was before the bs causing the chip shortage

if valve did take the loss, they would just put an order limit like they did on the steam controller to avoid scalpers. They have a pretty good system to avoid this issue.

Omg thank you! One of the VERY few legit takes on the steam machine I’ve seen. Too many people have zero clue just how much prices have increased on the majority of components and that those prices aren’t coming down anytime soon thanks to demand vastly outstripping manufacturing capacity.

Even ignoring the economics of general computing valve don't want to sell at a loss because they have no interest in driving other pc makers out of the market for gaming PCs. same with steam deck they actually want competition because it's better for steam as an ecosystem.
