@kristin_kreuk7: July's book for The Madwoman's Library is the French classic, "The Lover" by Marguerite Duras. Semi autobiographical. I am curious how this lands for all of you. We are looking at colonialism, girlhood and its entrance into womanhood, self definition, what we see as empowerment (while wondering if it is, indeed, empowerment). We are in the thick of the summer in July. At least in the north. And this is very embodied. This is about, in part, owning desire. Owning narrative. Owning our stories and our lives. Let's go back to poor Stevens for a second. The man denied his desire (did he even feel it?) and got swallowed into a narrative structure to justify his life. This book is so very different. To own desire. To craft narrative structure knowingly... anyway, on vacation. Quick post. I am going to eat and drink and look at flowers now.
