also when u look at the best management practices for soil health, grazing land management and for profitability and productivity of livestock they all align with the carbon project anyway. So if u do them u may as well be part of the project and its a win win

good mate of mine worked FIFO to buy the family farm from her dad. Over the past 50 years it's changed from being a rocksteady cropping property to seasonally dicey grazing country as Goyders Line in SA drifts south due to climate change driven desertification. She's pivoted to regenerative farming (has an ag science degree) and the results are fantastic. The farm is much more productive. Good, smart, soil loving agriculture needs these kind of incentives. Good on you.

The carbon farming program we have is through testing soil samples. It is not locking up country and planting trees. We have grass lands with some natural occurring tree and shrubbery and will continue to operate as a time controlled grazing enterprise, striving to make holistic choices 💃

Very understandable and will work the for most producers that are in the relevant area’s but for us in the Monaro Gina Reinhardt and her companies such as Redwood and others are some one of the biggest purchases of land to plant trees. to gain carbon credits for the mining. They buying land at twice the value that any farmer in our region can afford and our average DSE is 10 at a starting point and planting beautiful farms down to trees to claim these credits. we did a big community meeting in Bombala a few weeks ago about this and it’s a real stress to our community and it’s quite serious. The big companies make the most of all of this. They found the loophole and it’s gonna screw our community. Very sad!!!!!!!!

Ok! But putting it at the basics! If a farmer is farming stock. Shouldn’t the farmer already be looking after the soil and making sure its is carbon friendly for their stock growing more trees n plants etc so they make profit! Why does the farmer need to make a deal with the government for the basis necessities of farming?

Who is offering that incentive? Does it have anything to do with the private companies who are actually destroying the land?

so are they paying farmers on good soil who already grow green crops because they currently already are a carbon sink? bet they arent

Hey legend I have a client that has a regen farm here in WA. It’s a small cattle farm called Yangedi. It’s such a beautiful place and the owner, Adam is soil crazy. It’s the greenest bloody farm I’ve been to. He plants 4 different grass types together and apparently the cows just love it.

theres a fair few good examples of graziers getting better soil conditions from solar panels in fields. then you sell excess power back into the grid for your surrounding area while still keeping livestock. 500 hectare farm can power 30k+ homes.
