it’s because vertical framing also creates discomfort, and so you also see less of the surroundings which can make the psychological film more intimate and suffocating. i love movies who has this bc since the frame is narrower, we are drawn to focus on subtle details and expressions. and also my take why the director also chose this bc it emphasizes isolation so like the characters can appeared TRAPPED within the frame. so i love how this movie has this format

Curry composed every frame intentionally with lots of empty space so the viewer would be constantly looking for Nikki in those spaces

it's called "centering the frame" hope this helps.

Hmm maybe cause the director started out on Youtube that he unconsciously has those instincts? Anw now that u mention it, I can’t unsee it too!!

I think he just mainly liked centered shots, which just happens to be easier to crop for tiktok or instagram

I believe Curry Barker mentioned that he intentionally wanted the aspect ratio to be exactly like a picture. His goal was to shoot the movie in a way that the audience are looking through the characters life in a picture. I forgot which interview was that.

i feel like this movie did it in a way that worked artistically and not how the recent disney/pixar movies have been doing it.. which is just for sake of tiktok clips

Not every centered shot means it’s for vertical format… yall just found what that meant a week ago stop throwing it around

it makes you looking around more bc the screen isn't full. it's a super good way to make you feel anxiety, bc you expect to see something at any moment.

the movie plays a lot with empty space and backgrounds. a zoomed out frame adds a ton of tension as you're expecting something in the BG

it's also because it's in 4:3 which automatically crops it down and makes it more cramped... not a whole lot of room to work with in general! which is the point :)

also i noticed (maybe too late lol) that Bear’s name is a satire reference to the “i choose the bear” trend
