Pre-game arrivals, press conferences and even training sessions have seen players proudly rocking jewellery to heights we rarely see at club level. Many will remember Jules Koundé being forced to take off his necklace mid-game at the previous World Cup in 2022. While we haven’t quite had a repeat of that incident thus far, players are utilising every other setting possible to showcase their jewellery to the world. Jewellery has become a way for athletes to tell deeper and personal stories in recent seasons especially. Lamine Yamal’s custom celebration is just an example of that, while Eberechi Eze and Jérémy Doku are among those openly displaying their faith through the pieces they wear. All forms of on-pitch jewellery were banned in 1999 but prior to that, players such as Ronaldinho, Johan Cruyff, Diego Maradona and Paolo Maldini were known to ball out with necklaces on display under their shirts.
