Historically in Genesis marrying your half sister wasn't yet prohibited. It was a legal and traditionally binding custom to marry half sister from your father's side. The prohibition only came in the book of Leviticus. That's why if you read the Bible you should look at the larger narrative. Dig the history and the the environment of the writing.
