Versailles now looks very opulent, but back under the Ancien Regime, it would have been extremely extravagant, the furniture, the lifestyles, the fashion, the court ceremony etc.

Imagine this, the ENTIRE PALACE was emptied of its contents and 17,000 items were put up for auction by the Revolutionary government. The only reason the mirrors survived is because they would have all been destroyed in the process of removal deeming them worthless. The palace tells us a fascinating story of immense wealth and immense hate, of incredible talent and ingenious engineering! You think we’ve seen men with power and wealth? NOTHING compares to this palace and I’m forever grateful it was to expensive to tear down!
