He looked at each face. He comforted each heart. He said his farewells with the smile of a man who has already made peace with what is coming. Then he walked onto the battlefield. He looked up at the sky — at the heavens that had witnessed everything — and said: "My Lord. My Creator. I go for the sake of the children of Your Prophet (PBUH). Just a little water. That is all I ask. My Master — arrange it so that I may return this water pouch to the tent of Sakina (SA)." He rode toward the Euphrates. An entire army stood between him and one small water pouch for one thirsty child. And Abbas (AS) did not hesitate. Not for a single breath. Because that is who he was. Not a warrior who loved war.
