I’m from Barcelona living in the US and feel MUCH safer in the US. Currently visiting family and Barcelona- there have been 2 more shootings - likely mafia related. And yes you should be worried in big crowds in Barcelona because we do have Islamic terrorism here.

this problem has been completely exaggerated. While the rate of some petty crime (like pickpocketing) may be slightly higher than other Spanish cities (the homicide rate is negligible), Barcelona is still a very safe city and say safer than most US cities by far

the shootings here are usually an "ajuste de cuentas" which is usually related to gangs and owing people money and it's usually a targeted hit, I don't ever remember any innocent bystanders getting hurt in these situations but I get why it would deter you from going out to crowded events

My best friend and I felt safer im Barcelona than we do in Brussels and we don't feel so unsafe in Brussels.
