@c5news: In a word – oarsome! Norway has won the crowd at the World Cup, with their celebratory ‘Viking Row’ making the team, and their fans, go viral around the world. Martin Odegaard led the whole of Norway with the celebration ritual following their 3-2 win over Senegal. Players and staff sat in formation on the pitch, in New Jersey, and each time the Arsenal skipper banged the drum, they pulled on invisible oars – and the crowd followed suit. Similar to Iceland’s viral ‘Viking Clap’ at the UEFA European Championships in 2016, Norway fans, often in Viking horns and in the team’s red colours, have been rowing around New York and Boston – on the street, up escalators and on public transport. Claiming to have started the celebration, Ole Froystad told CCN: “It goes way back. A thousand years ago, the Vikings rowed. They took in their sails, (and) oars out to get to shore. And they did that right before battle. “It’s about rowing for the team, making sure they feel good on the pitch.”
