This situation was profoundly heartbreaking for Matt. The trauma he faced and endured alone was incredibly draining. His best friend, who truly understood him, never underestimated him, nor did he belittle him or judge him. Instead, Foggy was a genuinely supportive and caring individual. Dex, however, took away this kind-hearted person solely for his own freedom and pleasure, feeding his ego and boosting his self-esteem. I find it hard to comprehend those who ship Dex and Matt together, as it seems they lack an understanding of the show's context and themes. The only reason Matt allowed Dex to go was his belief in redemption, change, and mercy. He could relate to Dex because they both share a darkness within themselves; one struggles without an internal compass, while the other manages it through his religious beliefs. Matt possesses a warm and compassionate heart, something Dex will never have.
