My father survived a ruptured brain aneurysm a little over 16 years ago. I was gearing up to shoot my thesis film at the AFI Conservatory, when I found out. My poor mother waited an entire week, before she called me to let me know. She didn’t want history repeating itself. My father only had a term left in his studies at the National Film School of Katowice, before he was exiled out of Poland, and ended up in Canada. After completing my studies, I returned home. Between my mother, and I, we were able to care for my father. It’s hard to describe what my father’s condition is like after surviving his acquired brain injury. He’s like a well-behaved 5 year-old, trapped in a 70 year-old man’s body. Living together with him, taught me lessons of compassion, and patience. I’ve learned to slow down, and don’t get too agitated or frustrated. My father picks up on emotions and mirrors it back. It’s best to just let go, and let things happen on their own time; as oppose to forcing things. Have faith that things will always turn out in the end. Don’t rush through life. Trust the process, and try appreciating the journey. Not the destination.

It was shot on the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2, paired with my set of Zeiss CP.3XD lenses. Graded with the Dehancer OFX plug-in for DaVinci Resolve:
