@red.wrench.films: 🎯The TSR-2 was a supersonic strike and reconnaissance aircraft developed in Britain during the late 1950s and early 1960s , but ended up as one of the most capable and most controversial aircraft NOT to enter service. ☢️Powered by two Bristol Siddeley Olympus engines, it was designed to fly at speeds exceeding Mach 2 and altitudes as low as 200 feet, carrying both conventional and nuclear weapons, to replace the ageing Canberra. 🇬🇧 Despite a successful maiden flight in September 1964, the entire programme was cancelled in April 1965... one of the most debated defence decisions in British history. #aviation #military #History

Jack Jones :

Can thank the American government at that time for helping get this cancelled

mig the protogen :

The fact this is was over budget yet their next plan of buying f-111s costed more is so stupid 😭 (that’s why British doesn’t have f-111 aardvark)

stingray12 :

cancelled the tsr2 project and the f111 was born

davidsmall161 :

this and avro arrow such a shame

Xavier Robinson :

looks like a jaguar and a buccaneer had a kid

Steve Golds :

I thought every single plane was destroyed. I’m glad that still exists

Damian Kimmi Marritt :

We will never know if TSR2 would have been any good. Because of its cancellation we got the Tornado which is undoubtedly one of the best aircraft ever made.

Sea_Lord :

It was obsolete before it was finished.

Krawk :

It had too much tech. It was expensive and UK would only have been only customer for an order of 40 or so.

Richard Payne :

Could have been a world beater

richardtanner736 :

Would never have worked. The avionics kit would never have worked and within 5 years would have been obsolete. Too early for proper solid state digital electronics

kmcm086 :

I fear this might happen to the tempest

Offline :

yanks.
