You are spot on in this. But one thing we shouldn't ignore is that NO ONE COULD EVER forsee the money the EPL would bring between 2010-2025. If they knew this, they couldn't have let Ashley Cole, Patrick Veira etc leave. Its easier to analyse the past. No one can forsee the future.

Up until 2003 there were no foreign billionaires ploughing money into clubs & clubs were operating based on their revenue so the idea was totally sound, the only way to compete with the biggest clubs in Europe financially was to take a hit for a few years & build a bigger stadium. No one could of foreseen that in 2003 Abramovich would buy Chelsea & throw money around that the club didn’t have which in turn over inflated the transfer market & player wages. Then began 2 decades of sports washing from Chelsea & then City that nobody could compete with. Not really surprising that this period was the most successful in both these team’s history.

👍🏽💯 bang on the money, the business model was with forethought but lacked foresight.. the board had to recognise the power struggle between usmanov and the kreonkes.. this restricted spending on a championship winning team having to sell the club’s best players each season to pay for the loan.. we lost valuable ground to the sugar daddies and impossible to recover on the pitch with the limited resources 🙏🏼🙏🏼
