POV: You just started the longest civil war in history because someone messed with your wife. Here’s the legendary story of Fabunmi of Okemesi, the man who looked the Ibadan Empire in the eyes and said: "Not today." The Scene: 1878, Okemesi-Ekiti Ibadan was the "big boss" of Yorubaland, and their tax collectors (Ajeles) were acting like they owned the place. They were arrogant, greedy, and out of control. The "Final Straw" Moment During a local festival, an Ibadan official went too far. He tried to harass Fabunmi’s wife and snatched his drinks. Fabunmi didn't call for a meeting. He didn't send a letter. He grabbed his sword and took the official's head right then and there. The Birth of the Ekiti-Parapo Fabunmi knew this meant war. He sent the official's head back to Ibadan as a message: "We are done being slaves." He united the Ekiti and Ijesha kingdoms into a massive super-army called the Ekiti-Parapo. The Kiriji War (1877–1893) The Vibe: 16 years of non-stop smoke. The Tech: It was the first time Yorubas used long-range "Kiriji" cannons (which gave the war its name). 💣 The Heroics: Fabunmi was the spark. He led from the front, showing the world that even the biggest empire can be humbled when people stand together for their dignity. The Legacy Fabunmi didn't just fight for himself; he fought for the freedom of the entire Ekiti land. He ended up as the King of Imesi-Ile and remains the ultimate "Main Character" of Ekiti history. "The man who turned a local insult into a national revolution." #YorubaHistory #Ekiti #FabunmiOkemesi #KirijiWar #AfricanHeroes
