Bodybuilding and strength sports were not always linked to PEDs. Natural bodybuilders were the only ones out there. During the 1940s, the Soviet Union was dominating Olympic sports and the US needed to find a way to overcome that. By the 1950s, US Olympic physician John Ziegler helped develop Dbol, the first oral performance enhancing substance. By 1958, it was FDA approved, and soon, bodybuilding followed the path Olympic athletes took. It was a groundbreaking invention, but many argue it was the beginning of the end. Unrealistic expectations, body destruction, unfair competition. What we know for sure is that from that moment forward, physiques were never the same. More muscles, less fat, more strength.
