Former hotelier: You can and should book under a pseudonym. It’s never discussed but we usually know an often make a note “therapist” or something similar in your profile and a good property will arrange to supply extra towels, water and snacks etc without you having to ask. (Almost every other guest in the property appreciates the little notes and personal acknowledgements… truly they are meaningful for people)

I used to work in a hotel and we were never allowed to do anything of the sort. we also werent allowed to say room numbers of give any information to anyone. People book hotels for a variety of reasons

Hey, I don’t know which one you chose in Brisbane but there are some good discrete options for your industry and it sounds like this was either a off option or off expensive. Just know that it is safe to book a place.

I support your work, but in this scenario the hotel did nothing wrong. these hotels are designed for people on holiday not for people bringing strangers back.

As someone who works in a hotel, I can’t imagine ever exposing someone’s name and room like that. Even our breakfast list (cause it’s printed) has to be kept in a drawer so no one sneaks a look at it

I get your point, but it's not something they would be worried about with most people. I can see why it wouldn't be a thought for them. However, I wouldn't be happy about my name on something on the outside of the door, either.

It’s one thing to put things inside the room. That’s something you can control because you check in you go up to the room you privatise it all is good. But what if you actually did have an abusive partner who was looking for you and you didn’t realise that they had left a little greeting card on the outside of the door?

I’ve stayed in a few and when you enter the room you get a card that says my name and like you said on the TV maybe you have to try and get in sooner so you catch the goodies before they get to the room. :) or when you fill in your form

I frequently stay in 5 star hotels (mainly Sydney and Melbourne) with my husband and leaving these cards with full name seems to be the norm. I never thought of it being an issue, but now I can see how it would be for s-workers! I'm glad your client is unlikely to cause you grief!
