I’ve been belly dancing professionally for a little over a year and a half, and this was my first time truly improvising to live music. I fell in love with this song as a little girl and never imagined that one day I’d be dancing to it. If you had told younger me this moment would happen, I don’t think she would’ve believed you. For so long, I’ve been chasing the next goal, the next performance, the next opportunity. I’ve spent so much time looking ahead that I forgot to stop and see how far I’ve already come. Little Joudy would be so proud. She’d be proud that the girl who once felt stiff, disconnected, and uncomfortable in her own body found a way to move with confidence, softness, and trust. She’d be proud that the body she once struggled to feel at home in has become the very thing that allows her to express herself, tell stories, and connect with others. This performance reminded me that dance isn’t about getting every movement right. It’s about surrendering. It’s about listening instead of thinking, trusting instead of controlling, and allowing yourself to simply exist in the music. For a few minutes, I wasn’t thinking about what came next. I was just… there. And that’s a feeling I’ll never forget. I couldn’t be more grateful for this journey or more proud of the dancer—and the woman—I’m becoming. Thank you to Kaeshi and Bellyqueen School for giving me this beautiful opportunity, and thank you to @Janelle Jalila Issis for your endless support, encouragement, and for always making me feel safe enough to grow. 🤍 . . . #bellydancer #syrians #s#syriannyc #egypt | Cairo | Levantine | levant | manhattan | queens | Brooklyn | actress | model | theatre | performer | beauty | Lebanon | Levantine | Haifa wehbe | for you page | dance | dancer | mena | Arab | Swana | Menaht | Arab American | Dabke
