@krishnachaytanya: A webhook is how a server tells your app something happened, instead of you polling the API over and over asking "anything new yet?" With polling you keep hitting the API on a timer and mostly get nothing back, wasting calls. With a webhook you register your callback URL once, and the provider pushes each event to that URL the instant it happens. One setup, no wasted requests, real-time updates. This is how Stripe, GitHub, Slack, Twilio and Shopify notify your backend. Save it for your next integration. WEBHOOK = EVENT → PROVIDER PUSHES TO YOU #webhooks #api #systemdesign #backend #softwarearchitecture

Jernik :
Polling can sometimes still be the better option - you can poll every minute or 10 minutes instead of an expensive websocket connection. Not every network architecture supports websockets well. Sometimes in degraded network environments (like a mobile phone), polling is a smoother ux than constantly trying to reopen a socket
