@sarahsstillhere: Replying to @justinbell536 this is how a child behaves and we don’t let children have grown up jobs. #fyp #bathing #coworkers #ettiquette #socialization
People do owe other people basic decency in a society. (barring extreme circumstances)

I think people mix up heing nice and being cordial. you dont have to buy them birthday gifts or hang out after work, but you do need to smile when appropriate, work fairly..., speak to them without attitude. Just be easy to work with. that person should never know you have a negative feeling about them.

Like no one is saying you have to be besties with anyone you work with. but being approachable and civil is just basic decency.

Ahh, no. This is the “every kid in class gets an invitation” nonsense. This is an environment that bullies adore.

I work with my literal nemesis. and nobody around me can tell because we work together and we are civil in order to get the job done. I'm not looking for workplace drama.

I have had coworkers that had no idea that I couldn't stand them. I wasn't trying to be fake, but it's just my work persona, try to keep it pleasant for everyone

is it not literally easier to just like nod and smile at people I feel like it takes so much effort to actively ignore everyone around you

I had a shower thought the other day that kinda pertains to this. I wonder if some of the reason why anxiety, especially social anxiety, had increased so much lately is because largely we don't follow etiquette anymore. No one knowing what is expected of themselves or others is stressful.

had a coworker that had to be told over a dozen times in a year to answer my emails. to communicate with me about when and if things/equipment breaks, is going to be worked on, etc... basic stuff. it's so exhausting

I had a coworker who hated me(pretty good at reading people), tried not to work next to me, that's fine. One day we were put next to each other, I was watching her patient when they went on break.... well stuff happened and I did a bunch of stuff for her patient, labs, meds, etc. when she got back I updated her on everything, and she was very thankful. After that she warmed up to me. I say this story to say I could have been petty, could have called her back from her break and let her deal with it. Instead I was a good coworker, trying to keep the culture positive.

I was going to say something about it not hurting to be nice around the people you are...going to be surrounded by...for years, but then I remembered that they hold down jobs like Russian Conscripts surviving for 30 minutes on the Front.
