Marcus Aurelius was a Roman emperor who ruled during a rare time in Roman history. A period of peace. It’s no surprise his meditations which were only reserved for himself but eventually became copied throughout time, became an indication of his character and thoughts. He speaks to a simplistic way of life which prioritizes our thoughts and attitudes towards the world. Aurelius reminded himself of the many facets of living, and how if we adhere to a set of guidelines we can live a life that is void of stress and suffering. Probably the most important aspect of Meditation is the control of our thoughts. In modern society with a limitless supply of distractions, our minds run at the rate of our stimulus. But if we practice continually the method of residing in our mind we can sift distractions and think clearly. Nothing external has a bridge to our minds, at least directly. So this is our superpower.
