Cemeteries across the region still contain memorials dedicated to countless soldiers, many of whom were barely adults when they died. In some parts of Germany, those unfamiliar with the country’s history might assume that little evidence of this era has survived, as if these events had never occurred. In Bavaria, however, the legacy of this period remains clearly visible, even to visitors with only a limited knowledge of history.
