immortality means endless suffering. we'd be eternally bound to the curse of existence itself.

I think immortality makes life pointless. And imagine how boring it would be

Immortality isn't something everyone could handle but if everyone was immortal I imagine society would care a lot more about the environment, beauty and quality in manufacturing, and many other things because they now have to deal with the long term consequences.

If you have infinite time, then time becomes a non-factor in one’s life. Death, the complete loss of time, is no longer a facilitator of change. This does not mean that change does not occur, as change only needs time to occur, and when you have infinite time then you have infinite change. Meaning would shift with each change, away from inherited meaning, but it would not disappear. Meaning would become an act of creation.

i feel like immortality would take away the sense of purpose in one's life. our purpose is to "live" and living is the opposite of death. so if there is no counterpart to living, then for what purpose do we "live"?

Immortality contradicts free will because you can never dye (I know) not even if you want to. And because of this it might not be that good.

I think immortality leads to things like psychological exhaustion, a drifting sense of identity, or deep social inequality, then it could weaken meaning, motivation, and how dynamic society stays So in my pov the most neutral way to look at it is that immortality isn’t automatically good or bad. Its value depends on whether it can still preserve novelty, a stable sense of self, and fair access over very long periods of time.

I think immortality wouldn’t make life meaningless, but is not the same live forever like a rich people than a poor people.

I don’t think we ever can be immortal, the closest thing is that we achieve biological immortality, which in turn makes us the most paranoid people ever cause we’ll live forever if nothing happens to us.

I disagree that wanting more time is in line with wanting immortality on the basis that people rarely want more time, they simply want a balance of all 3 constraints that keep people from self actualization - time, money and goals(scope). The quality in which these exist affect how one thinks of their life. 40 years of a life of abundance in money and personal achievement beats. 80 years of poverty and strife to success. May be personal philosophy on my part but I stand by it.

If we were immortal, we would never get anything done because we’ve got all the time and can do it anytime we want, so we'd end up procrastinating every little bit of our lives.

A concern I have regarding the perspective of eternal life is the potential for individuals to engage in self-destructive or harmful behaviors towards others, given the absence of terminal consequences. This could lead to a more aggressive and self-serving approach to life choices.

mortality doesnt drive you to do anything... it may play a part, a small part, but not the main reason... Man is driven by need and desire... those won't be voided by immortality... immortality means a new reality with far reaching consequences. personally, i would do more if I knew I was gonna stay here longer cos of the desire for stability... Right now, i do the least I can get away with because there's an end

i believe it's really good, anyone would like to have more time imagine being able to see the future experience more and enjoy more , but it has to be in control absolute immortality is the worst hell imaginable, but if you're immortal and be able to choose to die at any time that would be good

I think the answer comes from the nature of objectivism. To one willing to explore, any amout of time in that state is a valuable expression of exploration, but to one who desires resolution for comfort, any amout of time is a deflection of that interest, and causes disquiet. Value is subjective, and deterministic based upon point of reference, and an idiology of progression. Without those things time and value is irrelevant.

I think immortality would be an amazing thing. If we had more time, we would have more opportunities, less stress over things that are by nature urgent to do. Especially now, my generation is struggling with « being late », having to built things NOW, it’s always such a pressure because you constantly feel like you’re missing a window that you’ll never get back… because you’re too old. It does make me thing of a TV show (The sandman) where one of the character is granted immortality. The god that gives it to him thinks he’ll regret it, soon enough… He doesn’t ! He talks about his success and defeats but never regrets. Just says he’s lonely lol I love your videos ! The devil horns are so cute 🥰

Another thought for everyone here: why does everyone assume immortality is a state of perfect health and vitality, when it just means that you can’t die? Soooo… would you still like to be immortal?
