@guerrillazooo: The World Worm Charming Championships is one of Britain’s most delightfully eccentric sporting events. First held in 1980 as a fundraiser to buy a computer for Willaston Primary School in Cheshire, where it takes place each year. Participants are allocated a small plot of land and given 30 minutes to coax as many earthworms as possible to the surface. The only rule is that digging is not allowed. Beyond that, ingenuity takes over: contestants tap the ground with forks, beat rhythms into the soil, play music, dance, and deploy increasingly inventive methods in an attempt to persuade worms upward through vibration alone. The world record is held by 10-year-old Sophie Smith, who charmed an mind boggling 567 worms during the 2009 championships. In 2026, a total of 3,396 worms were charmed across the event. The crowned world champions were Sienna Beavers, Archie Clarke and their grandfather Peter Clarke from Plot 60, who secured victory with an earth shakingly impressive 164 worms! #worm #wormcharming #britishtradition #culturalheritage
