I'm a little late but my science teacher explains this every year. His example is "If three of you had pencils and everyone else didn't; if I give each of you one that is equality. If I gave pencils to the people who only needed it that is equity. It's to give everyone the recourses they need to be successful." And I carry that with me a lot.
