One of the biggest talking points coming out of House of the Dragon Season 3 is the decision around Rhaena Targaryen and Sheepstealer, and whether this change actually helps or hurts the story overall. On one hand, giving Rhaena the opportunity to claim Sheepstealer adds more weight to her arc. She’s often been on the sidelines compared to other Targaryens, and this storyline finally pushes her into the heart of the Dance of the Dragons in a more active way. But it also comes with some major trade-offs. The most obvious is the removal of Nettles, one of the most unique and grounded dragonseeds in Fire & Blood. Her relationship with Sheepstealer was one of the more humanising parts of the dragonrider storyline, and losing her changes the texture of that entire subplot. There’s also the question of how this impacts the wider war, particularly for Team Black. In the books, the presence of multiple dragonseeds plays a crucial role in shaping key events like the Battle of the Gullet. By shifting Sheepstealer’s role to Rhaena, the dynamic of those conflicts changes significantly, and not everyone will agree with that direction.
