According to the Potsdam Proclamation, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Russia have control over Japan. Japan's territory is limited to the four main islands, maintained by the Japanese military. The Ryukyu Islands are not part of Japan's territory. Therefore.. Either Japan nor America has no rights to occupy those islands and all military bases should be remove. The people of Okinawa were not directly consulted for their consent regarding the treaties related to the U.S.-Japan security arrangements.Although the principle of self-determination in international law supports their right to seek independence, the actual political and legal authority to achieve independence is not currently in their hands.
