Tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun, combined with the Earth's rotation.

The tides don’t actually move in and out…the earth rotates through the bulge created by the gravitational pull.

Elksfeather :
Humanity has recognized the connection between the Moon and the tides for over 2,000 years, but it wasn't until Isaac Newton's publication of Principia in 1687 that science formally proved the Moon and Sun's gravitational pull is what actually causes them.

The tides go in and out because the Moon’s gravity pulls on Earth’s oceans, creating bulges of water. As Earth rotates, different areas move through these bulges, causing high and low tides. The Sun also affects it, making tides bigger or smaller depending on how it lines up with the Moon…you’re welcome 💅🏼

Yeah so, humanity has understood that the moon has had involvement in the tides for about 2000 years and then when Newton discovered gravity, we finally understood why!

I can’t explain it so I’ll make up an explanation pre-science. It’s not the gravity of the moon it’s God really.?

The tides don't go in and out. The Earth revolves into the water and then out of the water.
