Protons carry a positive electrical charge and neutrons carry no charge, binding tightly together at the center of the atom to form a dense core called the nucleus. Surrounding this nucleus is a cloud of rapidly moving electrons, which carry a negative electrical charge and are attracted to the positive nucleus. In a neutral atom, the number of protons exactly equals the number of electrons, balancing the overall charge. The identity and behavior of an atom are determined by these subatomic particles, which is how the periodic table of elements is organized. Elements are arranged on the periodic table in order of increasing atomic number, which is the exact number of protons found in an element's nucleus. For example, hydrogen has one proton, while helium has two. While the number of protons defines the element, the number of neutrons can vary, creating different variations of the same element known as isotopes. The mass number of an atom is the total count of both protons and neutrons combined, as electrons have almost no mass. The structure of the periodic table also reveals how atoms will interact with one another to form chemical bonds. It is organized into horizontal rows called periods and vertical columns called groups, which group elements with similar chemical properties together. Elements in the same group have the same number of valence electrons, which are the electrons in the outermost shell of the atom. Because atoms naturally strive to have a full outer shell of electrons to achieve stability, elements in the same column react in highly predictable ways, either sharing, gaining, or losing electrons to bond with other atoms. I got told if I committed I would be sent to hell and that I would be tortured forever only to realize that hey that’s not right you shouldn’t punish someone just because “your plan” gave them shitty mental health so I stopped believing. Now I get told I’ll go to hell because I don’t believe and when I tell them that it still hurts my feelings that they tell me that I’ll go to hell they just shrug it off because I don’t believe. I don’t like being told I’ll go to a fiery pit of darkness and agony forever I don’t think its real but it still hurts
