@the_goat_tm: 🚨🚨 |𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗧: Ghana are one of only (4) teams yet to concede a goal at the 2026 World Cup: • 🇦🇷 Argentina • 🇬🇭 Ghana • 🇲🇽 Mexico A defensive tactical masterpiece from Ghana against England tonight! 🇬🇭🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 First of all the absolute KEY to understand the performance was that Ghana managed to maintain Harry Kane on only 19 ball touches. Kane is the most important player for England to play in between spaces, when he is dropping down to play as a playmaker. He is the principle in setting the play for England on the final third, where he looks to find players into space behind him and in general playmake the offense. Therefore the key to what Ghana did so well out of possesion was holding Kane out of the game this much! Ghana was playing a 4-1-4-1 out of possesion, where the MAIN principle was Thomas Partey always shielding of Harry Kane and making it difficult for England to find him in the pockets of space between the lines in the final third, where he can have the biggest impact on the game and is an key for England. Partey was always keeping an eye on him to not let him interact with the ball. (Picture 1 illustrates Partey shielding off in first minutes of game, where picture 2 identifies the exact same later on in the game) 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿: Although i will give a huge shoutout to the Ghana performance, it was also a very disappointing performance we saw from England, who lacked something in their game and didn't manage to change the rhytm of the game. Bad ingame managment from Tuchel? In my opinion, it was a huge surprise to see Nico O'Reilly left out of the squad. I'm convinced that moving Morgan Rogers into the front line for Gordon and introducing O'Reilly for Spence earlier would have made a significant difference. Rogers could have drifted into central areas and operated between the lines, creating far more problems for Ghana's defensive structure. His ability to find pockets of space in the final third would also have helped take some of the attention away from Harry Kane. Meanwhile, O'Reilly could have provided natural width down the left flank, giving England better balance and a different attacking dynamic. I am in shock how Tuchel managed to let Madueke play 82 minutes of this game? And even more that he was the player in minute 65, who took place on the left winger position... Makes no sense to me that only in the 82' minute they shifted this around. All in all i am a bit worried for England that other teams will have a look on how to break them down out of possesion with a defensive midfielder screening Harry Kane, and not letting England play on their qualities this way. This could be a huge gamebook to the other teams in this tournament! (Perfect for spain with Rodri, Portugal with Vitinha, Argentina with Mac Allister, Netherlands with De Jong etc...)
